| ![]() The door of our premier issue features a backdrop of Durga, one of the main deities Asian Indian Hindus worship. Durga is an image of grace and beauty, a tutelary deity. Women in India invoke her when their near and dear ones step out of home. Durga is benign although she is often depicted as killing a demon. The killing symbolizes the victory of good over evil. On the door of this magazine, her face shows through translucent snatches of Islamic and Biblical scriptures. Also shown in the composite is the American flag, symbolizing the American citizenship of many Asian Indians in the United States. |
